With the off-season in full force for some players, training can sometimes become relatively non-existent as well. The fact is, though, that you should be using the off-season to keep your body in shape. A good off-season workout routine prepares you for the upcoming season. Whether you have weeks or months between seasons, you really need to take this time to hone your skills and work on perfecting your moves.

The goalie position is quite possibly the most important on a lacrosse team because a good goalie can separate an ok team from a great one. So what makes a good goalie? Well, obviously, a good goalie can stop any shot taken by the opponent. A good goalie is also able to “clear” the ball (carry and pass the ball to an open teammate). But much like a football quarterback, a good goalie is also a leader who knows the ins and outs of the game. He/she must have a thorough understanding of the needs of their team and what More >

Defense is probably the least recognized position in lacrosse since defensemen are not the goalmakers… Not directly at least. But a good all around team requires a good offense and a good defense. Without a good balance on both sides of the field, your team will struggle if your defense is weak.
Size is a great asset for a defensemen, but agility is even more valuable. Larger players may be intimidating, but this position also requires speed and agility in order to be effective.
SKILLS NEEDED In general, good defensemen need speed, good footwork and excellent checking and decision making skills. More >

Cradling is an important Lacrosse move. However, many players don’t understand the purpose of cradling or why they’re doing it and many simply are not doing it right to begin with. The actual purpose of cradling is to get the ball in the “sweet” spot of the pocket before you throw it.
Proper hand positioning is key to this maneuver. When you have the stick in your hand, you don’t More >

One of the most basic skills that all beginners must learn is how to scoop the ball effectively. When scooping, you want to get low to the ground and use the top part of the lacrosse head to scoop the ball up. To do this, bend your knees and lower the stick to the ground to pick the ball up in one fluid motion while continuing to run forward. Get comfortable with a low crouch while running and work on literally scooping the ball into the pocket. Be sure that your stick is parallel to the the ground. Any other More >

SKILLS NEEDED In general, good midfielders need speed, strength and incredible endurance. Middies are required to run up and down the field, so quickness is a very important skill for this position. Being a coach can be hard enough without parents becoming an issue. But the fact is that a good parent-coach interaction is important to the team’s success.
Most parents are very supportive and try not to complain. Furthermore, most issues are non-issues and have a way of working themselves out over time. If you are well-organized, coaching well, are modeling great sportsmanship and your teams are competitive, you won’t hear many complaints.
Many parents are simply misinformed, don’t really understand the game or just love to complain. The bigger issue is usually the “player agents”… akin to stage moms. These parents believe More >
